Working with writer, agent, and/or publisher to develop and hone ideas, edit project. Writing proposal for submission; advice on submission pitch and process; gathering material; completing draft of manuscript. Charges on hourly or project basis.
Substantive Editing
Comprehensive editing process for shorter work (60 pages or less) which includes: Line editing for punctuation, spelling, basic grammar and copy editing, which focuses on style, flow, plot points, consistency, establishment of character. Charge per page of ~250 words.
Copy Editing
Details, such as grammar and spelling, are not the focus with this approach. Copy editing looks at the style, flow, plot points, consistency. Charge per page of ~250 words.
Workshops: Manuscript Critiquing/ Crash Course/ Reading Like a Writer
Minimum of six participants per workshop, maximum 12.

Comprehensive Edit
Detailed, handwritten suggestions on the printed text, and advice about overarching elements such as structure, character development, pace, consistency, as well as technical aspects such as dialogue and scene placement. In addition to scene-by-scene annotation, this includes a written synopsis of the main elements that need attention and help with a query letter. Follow-up phone calls, or an e-mail dialogue included. Turnaround time for a manuscript of this length is about 8 weeks.
Editorial Letter
Thorough synopsis of editorial feedback on the entire manuscript. This is not a detailed line edit, but concentrates on overarching elements such as structure, character development, pace, and consistency. Follow up phone calls or e-mail dialogue included. Turnaround time for this edit is about 4 weeks.
Query Letter Writing
Drawing up professional query letter for writers seeking representation or approaching publishers. Charges on project basis.
Manuscript Submission Guidelines: The writer can either supply one double-spaced copy of the manuscript (which is returned, annotated, for the Comprehensive Edit only), or can send me an e-mail file which I will have printed locally. If applicable, mailing and printing costs are billed separately.
